  • Research mainly on modeling and scenarios of how climate change will affect the economy and the social context in the context of environmental change. The second part of the activities with high relevance for the field of prospective studies is the decarbonisation of the economy related to the carbon neutrality plan until 2050.

Concise Profile

Richard Filčák is Deputy Director of CSPV and Head of the Institute of Forecasting at SAS. His research and work has been focused on climate change in its economic-social dimensions, research on poverty and the environment, environmental justice and development strategies on energy, decarbonisation and the transition to a low-carbon and circular economy. He studied at the Faculty of Science, Comenius University and at the University of Lund, Sweden. He defended his doctorate at the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest. He was visiting scholar in India, at the University of London and in Joint Research Institute (JRC) of the EU in Seville. He works in the field of development policy evaluation, focusing on the European programs of economic and social cohesion. He coordinates and participate in the APVV and Horizon 2020 projects and cooperates with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic for Informatics and Investment in the evaluation of ESIF programming periods and their planning. Richard is the coordinator of the Slovak National Reference Center (NRC) for the Development of Forward-Looking Information and Services (FLIS). The Center works in cooperation with the Slovak Environmental Agency and the European Environment Agency in Copenhagen. He leads projects and collaborated on development activities in Central Europe, the Balkans, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia and Turkey. He is a national expert for evaluation and socio-economic analysis in projects of the European Commission (DG-REGIO) and an affiliated in the Expert Roster member for Human Development and Poverty Monitoring of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). As an external consultant, he has worked with the World Bank, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the European Environment Agency (EEB) and various NGOs.
